Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, September 2024 – Sonali Sharma has been appointed as the General Counsel and Head of Legal for Bank of America’s Indian operations, where she will be responsible for overseeing the legal strategy and operations in the region, advising on regulatory and compliance matters, and managing legal risks associated with the bank’s activities in India.
Prior to joining Bank of America, Sonali has been actively engaged as a Volunteer at Cuddles Foundation, a child healthcare charity, since May 2024. She also worked as a Legal Consultant, specializing in fundraising, private equity, and credit transactions, for about 8 months.
Before her consultancy work, Sonali served as the Head of Legal at Avendus for approximately 1.5 years, where she was responsible for the legal operations concerning equities, mergers and acquisitions, credit, wealth management, and general corporate matters.
Earlier in her career, she spent over 7 years as Senior Legal Counsel at Standard Chartered Bank, managing legal aspects related to capital markets, corporate finance, loan syndication, and structured credit transactions.
Sonali’s extensive experience also includes over 12 years at Juris Corp, where she progressed from Associate to Partner. At Juris Corp, she gained expertise in capital markets, structured finance, and banking regulatory litigation.
