Bradford, United Kingdom – October 2024 – Stuart Kempster has been appointed as Head of People – Retail at Morrisons, bringing over 16 years of HR leadership experience within the organization. In this new role, Stuart will oversee the HR strategy across the retail division, focusing on employee engagement, talent management, and driving people initiatives to align with business goals.
Stuart’s journey at Morrisons has spanned over 16 years. Prior to his current role, he was the Head of People – Employee Relations, Change & Policy, where he led strategic HR transformation initiatives, managed employee relations, and developed policies to enhance employee engagement for over three years.
Before that, Stuart served as the Senior People Manager – Retail, Learning & Development, focusing on improving learning programs and driving HR performance across Morrisons’ retail segment. His experience also includes working as a Senior HR Business Partner, where he provided strategic HR support at the head office, enhancing workforce planning and HR services for nearly four years.
Stuart’s earlier roles include Regional People Manager, where he supported the HR strategy across 27 stores, and Area Personnel & Training Manager, managing HR operations in North Wales, North-Mid Wales, and the English Borders region. He also served as a Store HR Manager, where he handled talent development, compliance, and welfare matters at multiple locations.
Stuart started his HR career as a Personnel/Payroll Clerk at Wm Morrison Supermarkets Plc, gaining foundational experience in HR operations. He also worked briefly as an HR Assistant at Stephensons Solicitors LLP.
