Thembile Mthembu has been named the new Head of Human Resources at Safal Steel. This strategic appointment marks a significant milestone in Mthembu’s distinguished career in the human resources field, where he brings over a decade of expertise to Safal Steel, a prominent entity within the Safal Group known for its coated steel and roofing products.
Before joining Safal Steel, Mthembu held the position of Senior Human Capital Manager at Nampak, where he served from January 2022 until February 2024. In this role, he was instrumental in managing HR functions across the organization, fostering employee relations and overseeing human capital development in South Africa.
Prior to his tenure at Nampak, Mthembu was the HR Manufacturing Manager at Defy Appliances from July 2019 to March 2021. His responsibilities included leading HR initiatives and aligning the HR infrastructure to support manufacturing operations. Earlier, he managed HR for Constantia Afripack Flexibles as the HR Manager for Africa from January 2017 to March 2019, where he played a crucial role in strategic HR management and operational development across the continent.
Mthembu’s earlier career also includes significant roles at Vector Logistics – RCL Foods and CGCSA, where he developed a reputation for his strategic and integrative approach to HR management. His experience spans several key industries, providing him with a vast understanding of human resources within diverse operational contexts.
