The Indian Health Service (IHS), a pivotal agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services dedicated to providing comprehensive health care services to American Indian and Alaska Native people, is pleased to announce the promotion of Tim Weahkee to Deputy Chief Executive Officer.
With an impressive tenure of over 14 years at the IHS, Weahkee’s extensive experience and leadership within the agency underscore his capability to oversee the administrative functions of a highly complex healthcare system.
In his new role, Weahkee will be responsible for the executive leadership of administrative functions across five locations in three states, servicing the healthcare needs of more than 8,000 users. This appointment marks a significant step in Weahkee’s career with the IHS, where he has previously served as Health System Administrator and Director of an outpatient medical clinic in Northwest Arizona. His roles have encompassed a broad range of responsibilities, from management and leadership to personnel security and ethics within the Southwest Region of the Indian Health Service.
Weahkee’s contributions to the Indian Health Service have been notable, particularly in areas of suitability adjudication, fingerprinting, background investigation, and security clearance investigation submissions. As an ethics advisor, he has provided invaluable guidance on conflicts of interest, financial disclosures, and awards, demonstrating his commitment to integrity and transparency within the agency.
