Fairfax County, Virginia, United States, June 2024 – William Solomon has taken on the role of Chief Human Resources Officer at Fairfax County Public Schools. In this position, William will lead the human resources department, focusing on talent acquisition, employee engagement, and strategic HR initiatives.
Before joining Fairfax County Public Schools, William served at Houston ISD for over seven years. His most recent role was as Executive Director, Talent Acquisition, where he managed a $4 million budget and led a team of over 45 HR professionals. He implemented core talent initiatives, including pre-employment services, onboarding, certification, and visa sponsorship for thousands of employees. He also developed and executed a comprehensive staffing strategy, introduced a centralized intent to return survey, and launched award-winning recruitment and retention marketing campaigns.
Prior to this, William was the Executive Director, Innovation & Student Enrollment at Houston ISD, where he launched a new division overseeing student recruitment and retention strategy. He managed a $2.5 million budget, opened a call center, and led the redesign of the public-facing website. He also spearheaded a paid tutoring program and coordinated a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging event.
As the Director, Strategy & Innovation, William developed a student recruitment and retention plan that increased enrollment significantly. He co-created a COVID-19 safety plan and implemented a venture capital initiative funding teacher-led projects. He also managed a districtwide college scholarship program.
In his earlier role as Senior Project Manager, Strategy & Innovation, he managed a paid summer internship program and launched cross-departmental projects to support K-12 campuses. He streamlined operational strategy and created collaboration systems for staff.
William began his career as Manager, College & Career Readiness at Houston ISD, where he provided training and professional development for practitioners and organized college and career access events. He also strengthened connections with partner organizations to support college and career readiness.
Before his tenure at Houston ISD, William was an Area Manager at Amazon, where he coached and developed warehouse associates, improved operational efficiency, and supervised package processing.
