United States, October 2024 – Mona Ala-Rashy has started her new role as Head of People Operations at USAID – Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance. In this critical role, she will be leading human resource operations to support the Bureau’s mission of responding to humanitarian crises worldwide, leveraging her vast experience in leadership and operations across international humanitarian organizations.
Prior to joining USAID, Mona Ala-Rashy served as the Country Director for Amnesty International, where she was responsible for driving strategic leadership and human rights initiatives in Austria. Her efforts focused on advocating for justice, equality, and the protection of human rights for vulnerable populations.
Before that, Mona spent nine years with UNDP in Europe and Central Asia, where she held the position of Area Manager. In this role, she led numerous programs focused on sustainable development, crisis response, and human rights, working across various regions to deliver impactful results for marginalized communities.
Mona’s humanitarian career also includes a significant tenure at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) from 2010 to 2012, where she specialized in International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and worked on critical humanitarian missions in Nairobi, addressing legal frameworks and advocacy for crisis-affected populations.
