New York, United States, May 2025 – Elizabeth Mattila has been appointed as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). In her new role, she leads a global team of 50 professionals across Human Resources and Global Operations, supporting EDF’s workforce in the U.S. and international locations including China, India, Mexico, the U.K., Europe, and Indonesia. She will be responsible for advancing HR strategy across talent management, global policy, ethics and compliance, succession planning, and employee engagement, helping EDF scale its mission-driven impact through its people.
Prior to this elevation, Elizabeth Mattila served in several leadership roles at Environmental Defense Fund, including Associate Vice President, Global HR and Operations and Senior Director, Global HR. During this time, she played a key role in building HR infrastructure to support EDF’s expanding global footprint, driving operational excellence and establishing talent and performance frameworks across regions.
Before joining EDF, she served as Director of Human Resources at Syneos Health, where she partnered with leadership during a global merger and was instrumental in talent acquisition, compensation planning, job harmonization, and strategic HR alignment. Her work helped shift the perception of HR from a transactional function to a strategic business partner.
She also worked as an independent HR consultant, providing strategic advisory to clients including the National Audubon Society, Kickstarter, and DataColor. Her consulting engagements spanned cultural sensitivity training, workforce planning, and global onboarding strategies.
Earlier, Elizabeth held HR leadership positions at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Time Inc., and Ovid Technologies, where she led HR transformation, digital workforce transition, and supported large-scale organizational restructures. Across her career, she has built trusted relationships with senior leaders while managing sensitive employee relations, global mobility, and HR strategy execution across diverse industries and geographies.
