Deepa Sebastian appointed as Chief Human Resources Officer at Apraava Energy

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, July 2025 — Apraava Energy has announced the appointment of Deepa Sebastian as its new Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), following the retirement of Gopinath Govindan, who successfully led the company’s HR function for 17 years. Deepa’s promotion marks a seamless internal transition and reflects Apraava’s strong focus on nurturing and advancing home-grown leadership.

With over two decades of industry experience, Deepa has been an integral part of Apraava’s journey for the past 16 years, most recently serving as Senior Vice President – HR. In her new role, she will be responsible for leading Human Resources, Corporate Communications, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) across the company’s pan-India operations. Her elevation to CHRO comes at a pivotal time as Apraava accelerates its focus on creating a people-centric, future-ready organization.

Throughout her tenure at Apraava (formerly CLP India), Deepa has played a transformative role in embedding a people-first culture, driving initiatives in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I), employee engagement, leadership development, and workforce readiness. Her thoughtful approach and strategic leadership have earned her recognition both internally and in the broader energy sector.

Before joining Apraava, Deepa began her career with i-Flex Processing Solutions, where she gained foundational experience in human capital management. A postgraduate in Human Resource Management from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Deepa combines academic depth with business pragmatism.

In 2023, she was honoured among the ‘Top Women in Renewable Energy’ by EQ International and currently contributes to the national HR ecosystem as an assessor for the CII National HR Excellence Awards. Her leadership is expected to play a vital role in driving Apraava’s talent and sustainability agenda as the company expands its footprint across renewable energy, power transmission, and customer-focused energy solutions.

Apraava Energy

Apraava Energy is one of India’s leading integrated energy solutions providers, jointly owned by the CLP Group—one of Asia’s largest investor-owned power businesses—and Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), a global investment group. Established in 2002, Apraava has evolved into a diversified, climate-forward organization with a portfolio of over 3,394 MW of installed capacity, including 1,200+ MW of wind and 250 MW of solar assets across seven Indian states.

Its infrastructure also includes a 1,320 MW coal-fired supercritical power plant, two transmission assets, and a new Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) business aimed at deploying ~4.7 million smart meters across Assam, Gujarat, West Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh. Apraava is among the few Indian power companies to commit to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and have its targets validated.

The company is committed to shaping a clean, green energy future for India and building a long-lasting legacy rooted in sustainability, innovation, and inclusive growth.
