Amitabh Kant is a distinguished public policy reformer and governance leader, most recently known for his pivotal role as India’s G20 Sherpa. Under his leadership during India’s G20 Presidency (2022–2023), the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration was unanimously adopted—marking a diplomatic success that emphasized India’s global leadership in digital public infrastructure, climate finance reforms, technology governance, and geopolitical consensus-building.

During his notable public service career, Kant held key positions, including CEO of NITI Aayog, where he led transformative initiatives like the Aspirational Districts Program, aimed at uplifting India’s most backward districts through competitive governance and impact-driven interventions.

He has also served as Secretary, Department for Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), CEO of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC), and Secretary, Tourism, Government of Kerala. His legacy includes launching globally acclaimed campaigns like ‘God’s Own Country’ and ‘Incredible India’, as well as key national initiatives like Startup India, Make in India, and Ease of Doing Business reforms.

Roshni Nadar Malhotra, Chairperson, HCLTech, stated, “We are delighted to have Amitabh Kant join the Board. His rich experience in building public sector institutions and contribution to India’s reforms will offer immense insights towards shaping HCLTech’s growth strategy.”

C. Vijayakumar, CEO & Managing Director, HCLTech, added, “Amitabh Kant joins us at a pivotal moment in our journey as well as within the industry. His thought leadership and long-term thinking will be invaluable in shaping our strategy. Amitabh shares our values and our ambition, and I look forward to his counsel as we execute our strategic plans.”

Amitabh Kant expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, saying, “HCLTech is among the finest corporate institutions in India. I am pleased to be part of its growth journey and look forward to working with the Board.”

He is a recipient of prestigious honors such as the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star (2023) by the Government of Japan, the Sir Edmund Hillary Fellowship from New Zealand, and the One Globe Award for leadership in 21st-century governance. A Chevening Scholar, he has authored six books and numerous articles on policy innovation and global development.
