San Antonio, Texas, United States, September 2025 — Whataburger has announced the appointment of Carl York, CPP as Group Director, HR Shared Services. In this leadership role, Carl will oversee HR shared services operations, leveraging his deep expertise in payroll, compliance, and HR technology to drive efficiency and enhance employee experience across the organization.
Carl brings more than two decades of progressive experience in HR, payroll management, and technology solutions. Most recently, he served at Workday as Principal Solution Consultant, where he earned multiple recognitions, including the FY25 Q4 Innovation Icon Award. Earlier at Workday, he also contributed as Senior Solution Consultant and Solution Consultant, working on complex HCM, payroll, and compliance implementations for large enterprises.
Prior to Workday, Carl held senior leadership roles in payroll and HR operations at organizations such as McKesson, OneSource Virtual, PayrollOrg, Omni Hotels & Resorts, La Quinta by Wyndham, and SourceHOV. Notably, he was honored as Corporate Employee of the Year at La Quinta in 2011. His early career included payroll leadership positions at HCA Healthcare, Greyhound Lines, Interstate Hotels & Resorts, and American Staff Resources, providing him with a strong foundation in HR operations and compliance.
With his new appointment, Carl is set to bring strategic insights and operational excellence to Whataburger’s HR Shared Services, ensuring scalable solutions that align with the company’s people-first philosophy and rapid growth trajectory.
