Tervuren, Flemish Region, Belgium,, September 2025 — Hugo De Stoop has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Marine Metals, a company at the forefront of transforming ship recycling into a safe, circular, and economically viable industry. In his new role, Hugo will lead the organization in advancing innovation, industrialized dismantling processes, and the production of low-carbon scrap steel to accelerate the decarbonization of the steel sector.
Hugo brings a wealth of global leadership experience, having most recently served as Founder and Managing Partner of Marine Steel, which pioneered sustainable ship recycling methods and collaborated closely with Marine Metals before the companies merged. His leadership in this space reflects his vision of turning ship recycling into a major industrial opportunity with strong environmental and economic outcomes.
Prior to Marine Steel, Hugo served for nearly two decades at Euronav, where he rose through the ranks from Deputy CFO to Chief Financial Officer and later became Chief Executive Officer. At Euronav, he spearheaded corporate growth, investor relations, and global strategic initiatives in the maritime and shipping industry, further strengthening his credentials as a transformational leader.
Earlier in his career, Hugo held leadership roles at UBS, I-Americas LLP, and Mustad International Group B.V., where he gained extensive expertise in corporate finance, structured funding, international expansion, and innovation ecosystems.
With his appointment at Marine Metals, Hugo is set to drive the company’s mission of establishing global standards for safe, circular, and sustainable ship recycling while positioning the firm as a key player in decarbonizing the steel sector.
