Rahway, New Jersey, United States, December 2025 — Merck has appointed Gregg Szabo as Senior Vice President and President, Global Vaccines & Infectious Diseases, marking a significant leadership transition as he assumes responsibility for one of the company’s most critical global portfolios. In his expanded role, Szabo will lead Merck’s efforts across vaccines and infectious diseases, reinforcing the company’s long-standing commitment to advancing science and improving patient outcomes worldwide.

Commenting on his new role, Gregg Szabo noted that helping patients impacted by infectious diseases has been a central focus throughout his career, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to lead a passionate and highly talented team dedicated to delivering vaccines and treatments while collaborating closely with partners who share Merck’s commitment to patients, science, and public health.

With more than three decades at Merck, Gregg Szabo brings deep global leadership experience across vaccines, virology, immunology, and infectious diseases. Prior to his current appointment, he served as Vice President and Global Commercial Leader, HPV Vaccines, following leadership roles as Vice President and Global Commercial Leader, Hospital & Infectious Disease, and Vice President and Global Commercial Leader, Virology / Immunology, where he guided global strategies across complex therapeutic areas.

Earlier in his journey, he held senior roles including Vice President and Global Commercial Leader, Virology, Global Brand Leader, Hepatitis, and Business Unit Director, Hospital/Specialty/Oncology. He also played a key role as Canadian Site Integration Lead during the Merck–Schering merger, and previously served as Vice President, Policy, Market Access and Communications. His early career at Merck included multiple commercial roles, building a strong foundation in global market leadership and strategy.

Education

Gregg Szabo holds an MBA from McGill University and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from McMaster University, combining strong scientific grounding with strategic business leadership.
