Genoa, Italy, July 2026 — AFRY has announced the appointment of Alessio Giuffra as Vice President and Head of Renewables & Energy Storage, EMEA. In his new leadership role, Alessio will lead the development of AFRY’s Renewables & Energy Storage business across the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, supporting the company’s ambition to accelerate the energy transition and deliver sustainable energy solutions to clients across the region.
Alessio brings more than 24 years of international experience in renewable energy, power, engineering, and business leadership. A long-standing leader at AFRY, where he has built an impressive career spanning over 15 years, he has consistently contributed to the company’s growth across multiple international markets. Prior to his elevation, he served as Managing Director of AFRY’s Italian Branch, leading business expansion and client engagement while strengthening the company’s presence in Italy. He also serves as Managing Director of AFRY’s Azerbaijan Branch and BESS Scrum Leader, driving strategic initiatives in battery energy storage systems and renewable energy development.
Before the AFRY brand was established through the merger with Pöyry, Alessio held several senior leadership positions within Pöyry Italy and Pöyry Energy, including Managing Director, General Manager – Business Unit, Business Manager – Power & Nuclear, Head of Power & Fuels, and Project Manager. These roles enabled him to lead large-scale energy and infrastructure projects while building expertise across renewable energy, conventional power, and international business operations.
Alessio began his professional journey as a Project Engineer at SPE srl, where he developed a strong technical foundation in electrical engineering and project execution. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Genoa, equipping him with the technical expertise that has underpinned his successful leadership career in the global energy sector.
With extensive international experience, strong commercial acumen, and proven leadership in renewable energy and energy storage, Alessio is well positioned to lead AFRY’s Renewables & Energy Storage business across the EMEA region and further strengthen the company’s role in supporting the global energy transition.
