Principia Energy, a distinguished leader in the renewable energy sector, has announced the appointment of Apostolos Panos as its new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). This role marks a significant step in Panos’s illustrious career, highlighting his deep involvement in the energy sector and his readiness to spearhead commercial operations at Principia.

Apostolos Panos has been with Heimstaden, previously part of Enel Green Power in Greece, for over three years, culminating in his recent promotion which began in April 2024. In his new capacity, Panos is poised to drive Principia’s business strategies and expansion, particularly focusing on leveraging the company’s substantial renewable energy assets.

Before his current elevation, Panos demonstrated formidable skill as the Head of Energy Management at Enel Green Power, where he oversaw renewable energy portfolio optimization and energy market strategies. His career also includes significant roles in grid interconnection and battery energy storage systems, underscoring his comprehensive expertise in the energy sector.

Previous Experience: Prior to joining Enel Green Power, Apostolos Panos enriched his professional journey with positions at Bain & Company, where he contributed to multinational strategy projects, and at 3Ds Energy, where he managed significant photovoltaic project portfolios. His foundational experiences also include impactful roles at PPC S.A., focusing on renewable energy grid integration, which prepared him for the complex challenges in the renewable energy market.

About Principia Energy: Founded in March 2024 by its shareholders, Enel Group and Macquarie Group, Principia Energy began as part of Enel Green Power’s operations in Greece in 2008. Today, Principia operates as a standalone entity with a focus on renewable energy projects including wind, solar, and hydropower across Europe. The company’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions is evident in its robust portfolio, which includes ongoing development in solar parks and operational energy plants contributing significantly to the green energy landscape.

Matthew Breitfelder is Partner and Global Head of Human Capital at Apollo, where he focuses on attracting extraordinary talent to the firm and creating an innovative, inclusive, high-performance culture that brings out the best in Apollo’s people. Matt leads Apollo’s recruiting, talent management, compensation, succession planning, citizenship, employee relations, development, and culture work. He is also a member of the firm’s Leadership Team. Matt is committed to expanding opportunities across Apollo’s workplace, marketplace, and communities. Prior to joining Apollo, Matt was Chief Talent Officer at BlackRock as well as a member of the Operating Committee. Previously, he held strategy, talent, and innovation roles at Mastercard, PwC, and CEB/Gartner.

Matt holds a BA in Economics from the University of Southern California, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He currently serves on the boards of the Lumina Foundation, the Aspen Institute’s Business and Society program, the Milken Institute’s Inclusive Capitalism initiative, and Georgetown University’s initiative on AI, Analytics, and the Future of Work. He is the co-author of numerous Harvard Business School case studies and articles on leadership. Matt has been recognized as a Top Global CHRO multiple times by n2Growth and Stanford Business School.
