Lisbon, Portugal, July 2024 – Carla Calisto has joined the Start Campus team as the new Chief People Officer. With her extensive experience in HR and strategic people management, Carla is set to play a pivotal role in driving the company’s growth and culture.
Carla Calisto joins Start Campus from VML MAP, where she served as Chief People Officer & Interim GM for around 3 years and 4 months. During her tenure, Carla was instrumental in overseeing HR operations and providing strategic leadership to support business growth and organizational efficiency.
Prior to VML MAP, Carla was at Sonae Sierra for about 12 years and 2 months, holding the position of HR Coordination Manager (Europe & New Markets). In this role, she managed HR operations across 12 countries, supporting over 600 employees, and played a key role in mergers, acquisitions, and the startup of new markets such as China, Colombia, and Russia.
Carla also worked at Nike for approximately 4 years and 7 months, initially as an HR Advisor for Portugal and later as a Commercial HR Advisor for the NIKE SUBMED region (Portugal, Spain, Greece, Croatia, Cyprus, and Israel). Her responsibilities included supporting recruitment, compensation, performance management, and strategic HR counseling for the commercial departments.
Her earlier experience includes serving as HR Development and Recruitment Manager at Staples for about 3 years, where she was responsible for selection and recruitment processes, career management, training, and performance appraisal systems.
Carla began her career at Volkswagen Autoeuropa as a Human Resources Business Partner, where she was involved in a wide range of HR activities including career planning, development, recruitment, performance appraisals, and training.

With a total combined investment value of €3.5bn, the project is set to use 100% renewable energy and targets an industry-leading PUE of 1.1 by harnessing the cooling power of the ocean. Start Campus aims to be Net Zero by 2030.
