Houston, Texas, United States, January 2026 — Varel Energy Solutions has appointed Carla Fontenot as Chief People & Process Officer, marking a significant leadership addition as the company continues to strengthen its people, process, and transformation agenda.
In her new role, Carla Fontenot will be responsible for aligning people strategy, organizational processes, and operational effectiveness to support Varel Energy Solutions’ long-term growth and performance objectives. Her mandate includes driving workforce transformation, leadership effectiveness, and process excellence across the organization.
Prior to this appointment, Carla was serving at Varel Energy Solutions as Vice President – Financial Planning & Analysis and Business Transformation, where she played a key role in strengthening financial modernization, enterprise performance, and transformation initiatives.
Before joining Varel, she spent several years at Oceaneering as Director – Business Transformation, Organization Efficiency and Global Training, leading large-scale transformation programs tied to profitability, financial modernization, corporate communications, organizational efficiency, and global training initiatives impacting more than 10,000 employees and technicians worldwide.
Earlier in her career, Carla served as Managing Director – North America at Maersk Training, where she led a major business turnaround during an industry downturn, overseeing operations, sales, finance, HR, and IT while strengthening delivery, quality, teamwork, and productivity. She also held senior leadership roles at Cobalt International Energy, driving strategic transformation across finance, HR, safety, facilities, and government relations, creating significant enterprise value.
Carla brings deep global leadership experience from her long tenure at bp, where she held multiple senior roles spanning human resources, commercial leadership, financial planning, crisis management, and large-scale transformation. Notably, she served as Incident Commander during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill response, leading complex, high-risk operations involving thousands of personnel and multi-billion-dollar budgets, as well as Executive Chief of Staff and Vice President – Global Wells Organization, where she led transformation efforts across a $6 billion global drilling organization.
With more than three decades of experience across energy, training, consulting, and transformation leadership, Carla Fontenot brings a unique blend of people leadership, operational rigor, and strategic transformation expertise to her role as Chief People & Process Officer at Varel Energy Solutions.
