Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands, January 2026 – Barentz has announced the appointment of Caroline van Nieuwkerk as Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO) and Executive Board Member. In this global leadership role, she will lead Barentz’s People and Culture agenda, focusing on building a thriving, high-performance work environment while strengthening organizational capability, leadership depth, and sustainable growth across the company’s worldwide operations.
With more than three decades of global HR leadership experience, Caroline van Nieuwkerk brings deep expertise in leading international people strategies, transformation programs, and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining Barentz, she served for over five years as Executive Board Member HR and Sustainability at Royal Van Leeuwen, where she led global HR and sustainability agendas, strengthened governance frameworks, and advanced leadership development and organizational effectiveness across international operations.
Alongside this, she has been serving as a Member of the Supervisory Board at Royal Swinkels Family Brewers, contributing to strategic governance, people leadership, and long-term organizational stewardship. She also served as Member of the Board of Advisors at Natec Sunergy BV, providing advisory support to leadership teams on people strategy and sustainable business growth.
Earlier, Caroline van Nieuwkerk held senior leadership roles at ISS A/S, where she served as People & Culture Director Europe, overseeing people strategy across 16 countries and more than 210,000 employees, and also held regional leadership roles as People & Culture Director Northern Europe and People & Culture Director Western Europe. Prior to her European leadership responsibilities, she served as People & Culture Director at ISS Nederland, where she led a major organizational turnaround, implemented a new people strategy, and transitioned the organization into a key-account-focused operating model.
Her earlier career includes senior HR leadership roles as HR Director at DTG, where she led the integration of De Telefoongids and De Gouden Gids and transformed the organization into a digital media company. She also served as Senior HR Manager at Microsoft Nederland, HR Director at NextiraOne Nederland, HR Manager/HR Director at Verizon (MCI Worldcom), and held commercial and HR leadership roles at KPN, building a strong foundation in commercial, digital, and technology-driven organizations.
