Reading, England, United Kingdom, January 2025 – Clare Bates has been appointed as the Chief People Officer & General Counsel at Vistry Group. In her new role, she will oversee the company’s people strategy alongside legal functions, contributing to the overall strategic direction of the organization.
Clare Bates has been with Vistry Group for nearly four years, most recently serving as General Counsel & Group Company Secretary. During this time, she played a pivotal role in managing corporate governance, risk management, and legal strategies across the group, ensuring compliance and operational excellence.
Prior to joining Vistry Group, Clare spent approximately six years at ConvaTec, where she held the roles of VP, Assistant General Counsel and Company Secretary and VP, Deputy General Counsel & Company Secretary. Her contributions included leading the legal team, advising on complex compliance matters, and supporting the company’s strategic growth.
Before her tenure at ConvaTec, Clare served as the Group Head of Legal at UDG Healthcare plc, overseeing legal risks and compliance across the company’s divisions. She also held several leadership roles within Ashfield, part of UDG Healthcare plc, including Legal Services Director and Head of Legal Services, where she was instrumental in guiding legal operations across multiple international markets.
Earlier in her career, Clare gained significant legal expertise as a Specialist Commercial Lawyer at Alliance & Leicester, Acting Head of Legal at Carter & Carter Group plc, and as an Assistant Solicitor at both HBJ Gateley Wareing and Eversheds.
