Cape Town, South Africa, May 2024 – Desereé van den Berg has been appointed as the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) at Unifi Africa, effective May 1, 2024. With extensive experience in human capital management, Desereé brings valuable expertise to her new role at Unifi Africa.
Before joining Unifi Africa, Desereé served as Executive Head of Human Capital at RBS Insurance Brokers for approximately 9 years. In this role, she oversaw all people functions for the holding company and its subsidiaries, focusing on HR strategies, organizational design, and talent management.
Prior to RBS Insurance Brokers, she was Director at Self Employed for around 3 years, specializing in business analysis, negotiation, and HR consultancy. In this capacity, she worked on various projects that involved developing HR frameworks and improving business processes for clients.
Desereé also had a significant tenure at Metropolitan for nearly 9 years, where she held multiple roles including Head of Human Resources and Senior Manager of Learning and Development. She managed HR strategies, training programs, and organizational development for Metropolitan Retail, serving approximately 5600 employees.
Earlier in her career, she worked at Sanlam for about 9 years in various roles such as Trainer and Developer of Learning Programs and Call Centre Specialist. Her responsibilities included developing training programs, managing customer service processes, and handling policy maintenance.
Additionally, Desereé has experience working at Momentum as a Client Liaison & Fund Administrator, where she managed financial solutions and employee benefits administration. She began her career with roles that built her foundation in HR and business management.
