Hyderabad, Telangana, India, July 2025 – Dr. (Maj) Mukund Kulkarni has taken on an expanded leadership role as Chief Business Officer – Life & Health Insurance at the Insurance Information Bureau of India (IIB). In this strategic position, he is leading the development of data-driven solutions, driving industry-wide collaboration, and establishing a Centre of Excellence (CoE) to support growth and innovation across India’s life and health insurance sectors.
Career Journey
Dr. Kulkarni has been associated with Insurance Information Bureau of India for over a year. Before his elevation to Chief Business Officer, he served as Head of Health Insurance, where he spearheaded transformative projects to strengthen India’s health insurance ecosystem. His efforts supported the IRDAI’s goal of ‘Insurance for All by 2047’, focusing on data analytics, product innovation, health tech, and collaborative frameworks with national healthcare bodies.
Prior to this, he was Head of Underwriting at Aegon Life (Bandhan Life) for over three years. In this role, he played a key part in leveraging technology and data models for strategic functions like underwriting, product development, claims, and compliance—positioning Aegon as a leading Insurtech innovator.
Earlier, he worked as a Strategic Business and Risk Consultant for over seven years, offering his deep expertise to insurance firms, KPOs, corporates, and healthcare organizations. His consulting spanned multiple domains including risk management, insurance medicine, wellness, predictive modeling, and healthcare analytics.
His previous leadership roles also include working at ICICI Lombard, Reliance Industries Limited, AXA, Swiss Re, and TATA-AIG, where he held global and national responsibilities across underwriting, claims, medical services, wellness programs, and health IT.
Beginning his professional journey in the Indian Army, Dr. Kulkarni served as a Medical Officer for over seven years, including during the Kargil War. His service as a healthcare leader in extreme conditions laid the foundation for his subsequent corporate and consulting excellence.
