London, England, United Kingdom, September 2025 – Emma Kerr has been appointed as the new Chief of Staff at Balderton Capital, one of Europe’s leading multistage venture capital firms. In this strategic leadership role, Emma will work closely with the leadership team to drive operational efficiency, support firm-wide initiatives, and amplify Balderton’s mission to empower top-tier European founders from Seed to IPO.
Emma joins Balderton after her impactful tenure as Chief Strategy Officer at Mawingu, a Nairobi-based connectivity solutions provider. Over nearly two years, she has played a pivotal role in shaping Mawingu’s growth strategy and market positioning, bringing connectivity to underserved regions of Kenya.
Before joining Mawingu, Emma spent over three years at McKinsey & Company, rising from Business Analyst to Engagement Manager. During her time at McKinsey, she worked on high-impact projects across the Technology, Media, Telecom (TMT) and Financial Services sectors. Her portfolio included due diligence, growth strategies for tech startups in Europe, operating model redesigns in broadcasting, and ESG strategies for major African banks. She also contributed to market readiness strategies for one of Ethiopia’s largest financial institutions ahead of the country’s stock exchange launch.
Earlier in her journey, Emma gained experience at the intersection of startups and venture capital as a Future VC Intern, where she trained with Entrepreneur First, building on her aspirations in tech investment. She also held content and SEO roles at Time Out Group in Mexico City, and operations roles at the Musée du Louvre in Paris, where she supported VIP protocol coordination in French.
Emma’s career also includes early experience in sales, law firm exposure, and hospitality through positions at Freddie’s Flowers, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Wimbledon, and John Lewis & Partners. These diverse roles reflect her multidimensional skill set and ability to adapt across sectors, cultures, and challenges.
