The Board of European Rail Supply Industry Association (UNIFE) has announced the appointment of Enno Wiebe as its new Director General, effective from 1 June 2024.
Wiebe, who previously held the position of Technical Director at the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER), will succeed Philippe Citroën, marking the end of Citroën’s impactful tenure since June 2011.
With a distinguished career in the railway sector, both at the international and national levels, Wiebe brings a wealth of experience to UNIFE. His leadership at CER involved overseeing technical operations and representing the association in discussions with the European Commission and the European Union Agency for Railways.
Michael Peter, Chair of the UNIFE Presiding Board and CEO of Siemens Mobility, expressed his enthusiasm for Wiebe’s appointment, highlighting the pivotal role rail plays in addressing Europe’s climate and industrial challenges. Peter also extended his gratitude to Philippe Citroën for his significant contributions to the sector, including pivotal initiatives like Shift2Rail and the 4th Railway Package, as well as his efforts to align the industry’s interests with EU legislation.
“I am very grateful to be entrusted with the leadership of UNIFE and its incredibly important work for the European Rail Supply Industry. It is an honour to continue the good work that has been done and an impulse to build on that to further improve the worldwide railway systems. Looking ahead, 2024 is a crucial year to drive the agenda for our industry, even more so with the upcoming EU elections and new interlocutors,” stated Wiebe regarding his new role.
