Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa, May 2025 – Grant Hughes has been appointed as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at GVW Group, a global industrial holding company known for its investments across manufacturing, technology, big data, and energy efficiency. In his new role, Grant will lead enterprise-wide cybersecurity strategy, governance, and risk management, bringing his deep expertise in security architecture, threat intelligence, and cyber resilience to the group’s diverse portfolio of high-growth businesses.
Prior to this appointment, Grant Hughes served as IT Manager: Cybersecurity & GRC at Engen, where he reported directly to the CIO and led a talented cybersecurity team. His responsibilities included shaping and executing the company’s information security function and strengthening its governance, risk, and compliance frameworks.
Earlier at Engen, he held roles including Principal Security Architect and Security Solutions Architect, where he designed advanced cybersecurity solutions and contributed to Engen’s evolving digital transformation. Grant also founded and led the Africa Tech Talent Support Project, a free global initiative to empower aspiring technology and cybersecurity professionals across Africa, and served as Founding President of the ISC2 Cape Town Chapter, showcasing his commitment to building security leadership capacity across the region.
Before Engen, Grant spent over a decade at TFG Infotec, holding positions from Desktop Support Analyst to Manager of the Cybersecurity Intelligence Centre, where he led intelligence-driven security operations and cyber threat mitigation strategies. His tenure at TFG established him as a key cybersecurity leader within South Africa’s retail and tech industry.
He began his career at The Foschini Group, where he provided VIP-level desktop support and transitioned into broader roles within information security and technical architecture, steadily advancing through the organization over nearly 11 years.
