London, United Kingdom – November 2024 – Janice Charles has joined The Fairtrade Foundation as the Head of People, where she will oversee the organization’s people strategies and support its mission to make trade fairer for producers worldwide. In her role, Janice will lead initiatives to enhance employee engagement, professional development, and workforce alignment with Fairtrade’s core values.
Before joining The Fairtrade Foundation, Janice served as Head of People at the Roundhouse Trust for over seven years. There, she redefined the human capital vision, aligning the HR strategy with the goals of the iconic Roundhouse Theatre. Her leadership saw the implementation of a five-year people strategy, updates to reward and benefits structures, and the introduction of competency frameworks to foster career progression. Her efforts during the post-pandemic period included compassionate restructuring and innovative HR system upgrades to support a resilient and motivated workforce.
Prior to her role at Roundhouse Trust, Janice was HR Manager at Heston Community Academy Trust, where she directed HR initiatives to support school-wide restructuring and recruitment strategies. Her work led to improved absenteeism management, a seamless integration of performance systems, and significant financial efficiencies through strategic planning.
Earlier in her career, Janice spent almost four years at Mercer as an HR Business Partner. Her role focused on employee relations, talent strategy alignment, and restructuring initiatives, where she played a key role in supporting leadership with HR guidance during organizational transitions. Her strategic counsel contributed to Mercer’s successful staff initiatives and enhanced succession planning.
