Before taking on the expanded leadership responsibility at Workday, Joel Hellermark spent nearly a decade building Sana as Founder and CEO. Under his leadership, Sana reimagined how organizations learn, search, and automate work through AI-powered agents. The company rapidly emerged as one of Europe’s most prominent AI startups and was acquired by Workday in 2025 in a deal valued at approximately $1.1 billion. Throughout his entrepreneurial journey, Hellermark played a key role in shaping enterprise AI applications focused on workplace productivity and knowledge intelligence.
Alongside leading Sana and now serving as Chief AI Officer at Workday, Hellermark has also built a strong presence as an investor across the global AI ecosystem. Over the last few years, he has backed several next-generation AI ventures including Lovable, focused on AI for app development; Legora, focused on AI solutions for lawyers; and Clay, which develops AI-driven GTM capabilities. His investment portfolio reflects a broad commitment to applying AI across enterprise and industry-specific workflows.
