Martinsville, Virginia, United States, February 2026 — Kimberly Dempsey Schaufenbuel has started a new position as Chief Human Resources Officer at Carter Bank, where she will lead the bank’s people strategy and human capital initiatives to support growth and community impact across Virginia and North Carolina.
Immediately prior to joining Carter Bank, Kimberly served in senior leadership roles at Cherry Bekaert, most recently as Chief Human Resources Officer and earlier as Chief Talent Officer. During her tenure, she advanced enterprise talent strategy, leadership development, and organizational capability initiatives to support business scaling and performance.
Before Cherry Bekaert, Kimberly held global talent leadership roles at Lightspeed Commerce, GenesisCare, and 2U, where she built and led global Talent & Capability functions supporting thousands of employees across multiple continents. At Lightspeed Commerce, she established a global talent framework supporting over 3,500 employees across 19 offices in 17 countries. At GenesisCare, she supported more than 6,500 employees across 400+ sites globally, ensuring consistent execution of HR processes while scaling organizational capability. Earlier at 2U, she led global talent management, employee engagement, diversity and inclusion, and workforce planning initiatives aligned with the company’s mission to expand access to digital education.
Earlier in her career, Kimberly held leadership positions at UNC Executive Development and Grifols, serving as a trusted advisor to global organizations and supporting large, complex workforces through organizational development, leadership pipeline building, and talent management. Across her career, she has built deep expertise in aligning human capital strategy with business transformation and global growth.
