Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands, February 2026 — Maarten van Beek has stepped into a new role as Chief Purpose & Strategy Officer at ING in the Netherlands, transitioning from a long-standing focus on human resources to a strategic mandate centered on strengthening ING’s purpose.
In this role, he will focus on ensuring that ING’s purpose steers strategic direction, builds trust, and empowers employees to deliver sustainable performance while serving customers with impactful financial products and services.
Before taking on this position, Maarten van Beek served as Senior HR Director Retail Banking at ING, where he was responsible for people and organizational strategy across ING’s Retail Bank spanning multiple European and international markets. Earlier, he held the role of HR Director for ING Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, and previously served as Director Human Resources for ING in the Netherlands, driving large-scale organizational transformation and performance initiatives.
Alongside his executive responsibilities, van Beek has held several governance and advisory roles, including supervisory and advisory board positions with organizations such as the Nederlandse School voor Openbaar Bestuur, Dutch Employers Association AWVN, and NPO. Earlier in his career, he served as CHRO and Chief Corporate Communications at Mölnlycke Health Care, following extensive international HR leadership experience with Unilever across Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East.
