Williamsport, Pennsylvania, United States, August 2025 – Mark Thompson has been appointed as Chief Human Resources Officer at STEP, Inc., a nonprofit Community Action Agency serving Lycoming and Clinton counties. In his new role, Thompson will oversee HR strategy, employee engagement, and organizational development to support STEP’s mission of driving community success through engagement and partnerships.
Most recently, Mark Thompson served at Amazon as Senior Manager, Central Investigations for over four years. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing high-level investigations and compliance across a global workforce, providing strategic employee relations support while managing sensitive workplace matters.
Before Amazon, he was Human Resources Director at UPMC Susquehanna, where he managed HR operations, workforce planning, and employee relations initiatives for the regional healthcare system.
Earlier, he served as Vice President of Human Resources at Hope Enterprises, Inc., a provider of services for people with disabilities. Over nearly nine years, he led human capital management for a workforce of 500 employees, overseeing benefits, compensation, succession planning, and strategic HR programs that strengthened organizational resilience and employee engagement.
Previously, Mark was Human Resources Manager at SUN Orthopaedic Group, Inc., where he established HR policies for a growing medical practice. He also held roles as Human Resources Administrator, Employee Relations at Coca-Cola Bottling Company of the Lehigh Valley, supporting both leaders and union staff, and as Human Resources Director at HCR ManorCare, where he led HR operations in a skilled nursing facility while providing regional HR support to additional locations.
Mark Thompson earned his MBA in Business Administration from Penn State University, equipping him with the business and strategic leadership expertise to complement his extensive HR career.
