Chicago, Illinois, United States, April 2026 – McDonald’s has promoted Mattijs Backx to Chief Transformation & Services Officer, further advancing its enterprise-wide modernization agenda.
In this role, Backx will lead Global Business Services (GBS), focusing on simplifying ways of working, enhancing service delivery, and building capabilities to support growth across global markets.
Since joining McDonald’s, Backx has played a pivotal role in advancing GBS capabilities as Senior Vice President, GBS Transformation, driving initiatives across Global People, Finance, Data & Analytics, and the company’s AI framework. His leadership has been instrumental in balancing innovation with execution speed while aligning transformation efforts with business needs.
Backx brings over 25 years of global transformation experience, having held leadership roles at organizations such as PepsiCo, Lufthansa, Office Depot, and JTI (Japan Tobacco International). His expertise in enterprise transformation, shared services, and operational excellence positions him to lead McDonald’s multi-year transformation journey.
This promotion reflects McDonald’s continued investment in building scalable, agile, and digitally enabled capabilities to support its global growth strategy.
