Celebration, Florida, United States, January 2026 — Michael Mewhirter has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of AdventHealth Celebration, following a formal announcement by Doug Harcombe, CEO, AdventHealth Central Florida – South Market. Mewhirter returns to the Celebration campus effective February 2, 2026, bringing strong leadership continuity and positive momentum after most recently serving as Chief Executive Officer of AdventHealth East Orlando.
In his new role, Mewhirter will lead overall hospital strategy, clinical and operational excellence, people leadership, financial stewardship and community health advancement for one of AdventHealth’s most prominent campuses.
Mewhirter most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of AdventHealth East Orlando, where he guided operational performance, workforce engagement and patient experience across a rapidly growing regional hospital.
Prior to this, he served as Vice President & Chief Operating Officer at AdventHealth Celebration, where he led day-to-day clinical, financial and workforce operations, building strong clinical and leadership continuity at the campus he now returns to lead.
Before rejoining AdventHealth, Mewhirter built a significant executive leadership career at Kettering Health, where he served across multiple senior roles including Executive Vice President, Interim Chief Executive Officer, Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, and Vice President for Finance and Operations at Grandview Medical Center System — driving system-wide financial stewardship, enterprise operations, growth strategy and performance transformation.
Earlier, he served as President of Fort Hamilton Hospital, where he held full operational accountability across patient care, finance, workforce leadership, physician engagement, marketing, community relations and spiritual care, strengthening mission-driven care delivery.
Mewhirter began his healthcare leadership career at Florida Hospital (now AdventHealth) in a series of finance and operational leadership roles at Celebration Health, Waterman and North Pinellas, building a deep foundation in healthcare financial stewardship, workforce efficiency and clinical operations.
Mewhirter holds a Master of Business Administration from Webster University.
