United Kingdom, May 2024 – Narayan Bhatra has recently been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer at Essar Energy Transition – Retail. Narayan expresses his gratitude and excitement for this opportunity, looking forward to contributing to the dynamic market in the UK and driving the company’s growth in the energy transition and mobility sector.
Narayan’s most recent role was as Chief Retail Officer at Nayara Energy. During his tenure, he led the core business vertical of Marketing, contributing 50% of the overall organization. He was responsible for developing strategies, executing and enhancing the fastest-growing private retail network of 6600 outlets, and managing a bottom line of more than $300 million. Under his leadership, the business aimed to double in scale within five years, enhancing market effectiveness by more than 50%, and creating value propositions for customers and partners.
Prior to this, Narayan served as Senior Vice President & Head Institutional Business at Nayara Energy, where he introduced new synergies and significantly scaled up market opportunities. He also developed new product and business segments, contributing to the organization’s future growth, including biofuel initiatives.
As the Vice President – Head Retail (Ops) at Nayara Energy from 2015 to 2020, Narayan was responsible for the effective operation of a retail network of over 5600 outlets. He delivered substantial growth in volume, TPO, and gross margin, and implemented significant programs for retail transformation, digitization, and performance management.
In his earlier roles, Narayan held various strategic positions, including Vice President (MD & CEO Office) at Essar Oil Limited, where he led business development and marketing initiatives for the company’s expansion in East Africa, and General Manager (Strategic Initiatives) at JSW Energy Ltd, where he optimized market value and strategized steam coal procurement.
Narayan began his career at Reliance Industries Limited and Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals LTD – India, where he gained extensive experience in strategic marketing, business development, and project management. His diverse roles and responsibilities have equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of the energy sector, making him a valuable addition to Essar Energy Transition – Retail.

EET plans to invest a total of US$3.6 billion in developing a range of low carbon energy transition projects over the next five years, with US$2.4 billion invested at Stanlow, between Liverpool and Manchester, and US$1.2 billion in India.
