New Delhi, India, May 2025 — Ramanathan S.M. has been appointed as Director (Engineering, Research & Development) at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), marking a significant milestone in his distinguished career. The appointment, which follows the approval of the company’s Board of Directors and the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), reflects BHEL’s strategic commitment to strengthening its innovation and engineering leadership.
Prior to this elevation, Ramanathan S.M. was serving as Executive Director at BHEL, where he played a vital role in operational and strategic initiatives critical to the company’s continued focus on advanced engineering and manufacturing excellence. Over his career of more than 14 years with BHEL, he has taken on increasing responsibilities across locations and business domains.
As General Manager at Bhopal, he has been instrumental in overseeing strategic and operational management activities to drive organizational performance. Earlier, he led the Flue Gas Desulfurization, Spares, and Water Business verticals as General Manager in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, and previously served as Additional General Manager at Bhopal, focusing on planning, strategy, operations, and financial management.
In his new capacity as Director (Engineering, R&D), Ramanathan will lead BHEL’s critical research and development functions and guide the company’s innovation roadmap. This aligns closely with BHEL’s broader mission to reinforce India’s core industrial and power infrastructure while accelerating the adoption of state-of-the-art technologies.
In a regulatory filing confirming the appointment, BHEL noted that the decision reflects its commitment to “research-driven growth and enhancing engineering prowess” in line with national objectives of self-reliance and advanced manufacturing.
