San Francisco, California, United States, November 2025 — OpenAI has appointed Sachin Katti as Head of Compute Infrastructure, marking a key leadership addition as the organization accelerates its next phase of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) research and deployment. In this role, Sachin will spearhead the architecture, scaling, and optimization of the compute systems powering OpenAI’s large-scale models, ensuring resilient infrastructure for global learning, inference, and real-world applications.
Sachin moves into this role following a high-impact tenure at Intel Corporation, where he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology & AI Officer. At Intel, he led the company’s AI strategy, product roadmap, and technology research efforts through Intel Labs. He also headed the Network and Edge Group, driving advancements in networking, distributed computing, and enabling AI workloads at the edge. His leadership was integral to steering Intel’s long-term vision in compute acceleration and platform-level innovation.
Before joining Intel, Sachin spent over 15 years at Stanford University, where he served as a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, later transitioning to Adjunct Professor. His academic work spanned wireless networks, distributed systems, and large-scale compute environments, while mentoring leading researchers in next-generation communication systems and AI-driven networks.
Sachin is also a serial entrepreneur, having co-founded startups such as Kumu Networks, known for its breakthrough work in full-duplex wireless technology, and Uhana, an AI-driven network optimization platform acquired by VMware. He played leadership roles in industry-shaping collaborations such as the O-RAN Alliance and xRAN Forum, reinforcing open, software-driven innovation in telecom infrastructure.
Earlier in his career, Sachin conducted research at MIT and UC Berkeley, earning recognition including the ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award (Honorable Mention) and the IEEE/ACM William Bennett Prize. He holds a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a B.Tech degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay). His appointment reflects OpenAI’s strong emphasis on advancing AI infrastructure capability and global compute readiness.
