Colombo, Western Province, Sri Lanka, June 2025 – Samit Datta has begun a new chapter in his distinguished career as Executive Director & COO at PGP Glass Ceylon, the only glass manufacturing company in Sri Lanka. In his new role, Samit will oversee operations and drive strategic growth for the company, leveraging over two decades of global experience in supply chain management, operations, and corporate leadership across the glass, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing sectors.
Before joining PGP Glass Ceylon, Samit held the position of Global Chief Supply Chain & Technology Officer at PGP Glass Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai, where he led supply chain, procurement, logistics, and technology functions across 18 global sites. He managed a team of over 600 professionals, executed major transformation projects, and played a central role in global strategy, capacity planning, and operational excellence for the glass, pharma, and NCE businesses.
Samit’s journey also includes a significant tenure as President – Corporate Supply Chain & IT at Piramal Glass Ltd, where he managed procurement and logistics strategy for the US, India, and Sri Lanka. He was instrumental in implementing SAP R/3, optimizing logistics networks, and managing large-scale warehousing and container export operations, while also heading IT integration across geographies.
Earlier in his career, Samit served as Vice President – Strategic Planning in Chairman’s Office at Piramal Enterprises Ltd, where he was responsible for business performance evaluation, competitor analysis, and M&A activities. He also contributed to business turnarounds, technology transfers, and global branding exercises in collaboration with leading consultants.
Prior to his extensive corporate journey in India and Sri Lanka, Samit held roles in consulting and project management at IBM Global Business Services, Pricewaterhouse Coopers Consulting, and operational leadership positions at Texmaco in Indonesia and General Motors in India. His broad experience across supply chain, project management, and business transformation has established him as a leader with a global perspective and operational excellence.
