Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, May 2025 – Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has announced that Shri Sanjay Khanna has taken over the additional charge as Chairman & Managing Director, adding to his current role as Director (Refineries) of the Maharatna oil and gas major. With an illustrious career spanning over three decades, Shri Khanna’s appointment signals continuity in leadership and reinforces BPCL’s strategic focus on refinery excellence and sustainable growth.
A Chemical Engineering graduate from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli, and a Postgraduate in Finance Management from Mumbai University, Shri Khanna has built an exceptional reputation for driving refinery operations and technical services at scale. He has played a pivotal role in anchoring several prestigious projects involving the setup of new process units at BPCL refineries in Mumbai, Kochi, and Numaligarh.
In his previous leadership roles, he served as Executive Director of BPCL’s Kochi Refinery and subsequently headed both Kochi and Mumbai Refineries. Notably, at Kochi, he spearheaded the commissioning of India’s first niche petrochemical project under BPCL — the Propylene Derivative Petrochemical Project (PDPP), marking a strategic expansion into the petrochemical space.
Apart from his operational leadership, Shri Khanna also serves on the Boards of Bharat Petro Resources Limited and Ratnagiri Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited, reflecting his broad influence across upstream and downstream verticals. His contributions extend to policy and technical advisory as well — he is currently the Chairperson of the Technical Committee for Petroleum Refineries under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG).
Shri Khanna’s elevation comes at a crucial juncture for BPCL, as the company accelerates its efforts to transition into a Net Zero Energy Company by 2040 and enhances its footprint in green energy, digital innovation, and future-ready fuel infrastructure.
