Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, March 2025 – Garvan Institute of Medical Research has announced the appointment of Sarah Young as Acting Chief People Officer. With a strong background in people and culture, HR strategy, and transformation, Sarah will lead Garvan’s HR initiatives, ensuring a people-first approach to support groundbreaking medical research.
Before stepping into her new role, Sarah served as People & Culture Manager at Garvan for over a year, where she played a crucial role in developing HR strategies, enhancing employee engagement, and fostering a collaborative workplace culture. Prior to this, she was Senior People & Culture Science Partner, focusing on people programs tailored to scientific research environments.
Prior to joining Garvan, Sarah was a Senior People Partner at Canva, where she led HR initiatives to support the company’s rapid global growth. In this role, she focused on talent development, leadership coaching, and organizational transformation.
She also brings extensive HR experience from Tesla, where she worked for nearly three years in London, UK, holding key positions such as EMEA HR Program Manager and Senior HR Business Partner for the UK & Ireland. Her tenure at Tesla saw her lead strategic HR programs, workforce planning, and operational improvements across multiple markets.
Before Tesla, Sarah was part of Kantar Media, serving as Global HR Programme Manager and HR Manager – Transformation, where she managed HR projects on a global scale, driving cultural and organizational change. Her early career includes leadership roles at TomTom and HERE Technologies, where she led teams in GIS analysis and data management.
