Newport Beach, Calif., USA – November 2024 – Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) has announced the appointment of Scott Boatwright as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and a member of the board of directors, effective immediately. Boatwright, who was previously appointed as Interim CEO in August, has held the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Chipotle since 2017. Throughout his tenure, he has led strategic initiatives that significantly improved the company’s guest experience, operational efficiency, and employee retention.
In his new role as CEO, Boatwright will be responsible for overseeing Chipotle’s expansive network of more than 3,600 restaurants and managing a workforce exceeding 125,000 employees. His leadership has been instrumental in integrating new technologies into Chipotle’s restaurant operations, enhancing customer service, and establishing a robust culture aligned with the company’s core values. These efforts have culminated in industry-leading retention rates and marked improvements in throughput, reinforcing Chipotle’s commitment to operational excellence.

Boatwright’s professional background includes nearly two decades with Arby’s Restaurant Group, where he served in various leadership capacities, eventually becoming Senior Vice President of Operations. At Arby’s, he was responsible for overseeing the operational performance of over 1,700 locations. Boatwright also holds a Master of Business Administration from the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University and currently serves on the board of directors of Academy Sports and Outdoors, Inc., as well as the National Restaurant Association’s Fast Casual Industry Council.
