Zube, who joined the Grand Rapids-based company in September 2022 as Senior Vice President, has been instrumental in steering SpartanNash’s People First strategy, a pivotal component of the company’s efforts to attract, retain, and develop exceptional talent.

Since taking on her role, Zube has significantly impacted SpartanNash’s workplace environment and culture. Under her guidance, the company not only achieved its 2023 Key Performance Indicators for safety and Associate retention but also saw a reduction in turnover by more than 9%. Her strategic initiatives include the introduction of SpartanNash’s inaugural People Philosophy and Competencies, aimed at enhancing the Associate career experience from recruitment through professional development.

Zube’s commitment to improving SpartanNash’s Total Rewards offering has led to meaningful enhancements, such as wage increases for entry-level roles, an expanded bonus program, and a more generous Associate Stock Purchase Plan, among other benefits. These efforts have contributed to SpartanNash’s recognition as a Great Place to Work®, its placement on Newsweek’s America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2024 list, and a notable rank on Indeed.com’s Top 25 Most Flexible Companies list.

SpartanNash CEO Tony Sarsam praised Zube’s substantial contributions, stating, “Nicole has driven remarkable, measurable impact that is felt by every individual Associate across the organization, and we are proud to recognize her talent, leadership and passion with this well-deserved promotion.”

Before her tenure at SpartanNash, Zube held the position of Head of HR – U.S. Commercial at Kellogg Company, where she amassed a wealth of experience in various human resources roles, including significant assignments in the United Kingdom focusing on European Supply Chain and Talent and Diversity. Zube’s professional background is complemented by her academic achievements, holding a bachelor’s degree from Northern Kentucky University and a master’s degree from Xavier University.

SpartanNash stands as a beacon in the food solutions industry, with a robust family of 17,000 Associates dedicated to delivering quality food products and solutions. Operating in both wholesale and retail segments, SpartanNash serves a wide range of customers and operates numerous grocery stores and pharmacies under various banners. Nicole Zube’s elevation to Executive Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer, marks a pivotal moment in SpartanNash’s ongoing commitment to fostering a People First culture and setting new benchmarks in the food solutions sector.
