Washington, District of Columbia, United States, August 2025 – Internet2, a leading nonprofit, member-driven advanced technology corporation, has announced the appointment of Tripti Sinha as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective October 15, 2025.
With over 30 years of experience in information technology, governance, operations, and policy, Tripti Sinha has been a steadfast advocate for advancing cyberinfrastructure and internet technologies within the research and education ecosystem. She currently serves as Chief Technology Officer at the University of Maryland, where she leads the Advanced Cyberinfrastructure and Internet Global Services unit in the Division of Information Technology. She also serves as Executive Director of Mid-Atlantic Crossroads (MAX), a multi-state regional research and education network. In her current role, she oversees regional networking operations, AI-optimized computing and research technology support, and the National Quantum Laboratory.

Tripti Sinha will succeed Howard Pfeffer as President and CEO.
Key Roles in Technology and Policy
Sinha is internationally recognized for her thought leadership in internet governance and her contributions to the global technical internet ecosystem. She currently chairs the Board of Directors of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). She has also served as Chair of the Board of Directors of The Quilt, in addition to her key roles at the University of Maryland and MAX.
Leading Internet2’s Mission
As President and CEO, Sinha will lead Internet2 in furthering its core mission of enabling collaboration across U.S. higher education institutions to advance academic, research, and service imperatives. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, she will engage a broad community of universities, government bodies, state networks, and corporate partners to drive innovation and scientific discovery that elevate the global research and learning environment.

Rigorous National Search Process
The appointment of Sinha follows a national search that began in May, facilitated by executive search firm WittKieffer and led by Cynthia Larive, Chancellor, University of California Santa Cruz, and Vice Chair, Internet2 Board. The search committee also included:
