Gurugram, Haryana, India, April 2025 – Varun Sharma has taken on a new role as Director – People Operation – South and Central Asia Operations (SCO) at DP World, where he will spearhead people strategy, HR process transformation, digital innovation, and analytics-driven workforce planning for the region. His new position positions him at the heart of DP World’s organizational evolution in South and Central Asia, ensuring seamless alignment between business priorities and human capital excellence.
Prior to this elevation, Varun served as Head HR – Rail & Inland Terminal, India-SCO, where he led transformative human capital strategies to drive growth, diversity, and productivity across rail businesses. Notable achievements under his leadership include a 7% rise in employee engagement, 28% of roles filled through internal succession, and implementation of HR tech systems such as Contract Labour Management System (CLMS), significantly boosting compliance. His efforts contributed to operational excellence, talent mobility, and recognition culture across business units.
Before joining DP World, Varun was Circle Head HR at Indus Towers Limited, where he played a pivotal role in post-merger cultural integration, talent development index creation, and implementation of nationwide engagement programs. His leadership ensured 100% retention of key talent and alignment of HR practices with business transformation.
Earlier, he held the role of Deputy General Manager – Lead HRBP at Reliance Jio, leading workforce planning, attrition control, campus engagement, and digital HR transformation across Maharashtra and Goa. He successfully reduced average TAT for critical roles and built a high-potential talent funnel for strategic business units.
Varun’s HR career began at NIIT and Bharti Infratel, where he shaped HR processes, PMS systems, and talent engagement initiatives across India and global education partnerships. His early experience in policy creation, competency frameworks, and learning strategy provided the foundation for his later success in large-scale transformation projects.
