Oslo, Norway – Ocean Sun, a pioneering company in the floating solar photovoltaic (PV) sector, is delighted to announce the appointment of Kristian Tørvold as its new Chief Executive Officer. This strategic move is poised to steer the company into a new era of growth and innovation, capitalizing on Tørvold’s extensive experience and deep understanding of the Asian market.

Tørvold, who has been an instrumental figure at Ocean Sun for the past five years, is taking over the reins from the company’s founder, Børge Bjørneklett. Under Bjørneklett’s visionary leadership, Ocean Sun has made significant strides in demonstrating its innovative solution for floating solar energy, establishing several pilot projects worldwide.

With a rich background spanning over 15 years in manufacturing, energy, and offshore industries across Europe and Asia, Tørvold’s previous roles have centered on building and scaling startups. His leadership in expanding Ocean Sun’s presence in North-East Asia has been crucial, positioning the company for continued success in the rapidly evolving renewable energy landscape.

Ocean Sun’s unique technology leverages Norway’s maritime heritage to offer a floating power system that significantly reduces the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE). The company’s patented solution features solar panels mounted on a thin hydroelastic membrane, benefiting from the cooling effects of water to enhance power output. Since its inception in 2016 and subsequent listing on Euronext Growth Oslo in October 2020, Ocean Sun has expanded its global footprint, with installations in Norway, Albania, the Philippines, Singapore, and China.

“I am honored to lead Ocean Sun as we embark on this exciting phase of growth. Our mission to provide sustainable and cost-effective floating solar solutions has never been more relevant. I look forward to building on the solid foundation laid by Børge and the team, driving innovation, and expanding our global reach.”

Kristian Tørvold

As Ocean Sun bids farewell to Børge Bjørneklett, the company extends its deepest gratitude for his dedication and contributions. The transition marks a significant milestone for Ocean Sun, with the team fully committed to realizing the vision for a sustainable energy future under Kristian Tørvold’s leadership.

About Ocean Sun

Inspired by Norway’s maritime heritage Ocean Sun has developed a patented solution for a floating power system with solar panels mounted on a thin hydroelastic membrane. Our technology offers renewable energy at world-beating cost levels, thanks to the cooling effect from the water which increases the power output from the solar modules.

Working towards a renewable energy future, we have installed systems world wide, from the rough coastal waters of Norway the technology has spread to Albania, the Philippines, Singapore, and China. The design can easily be adapted to local conditions, and therefore offers the lowest LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy) of any FPV solution available, no matter if you are deploying it on benign inland waters, hydropower reservoirs, nearshore or even offshore.

Founded in 2016, the company listed on Euronext Growth Oslo in October 2020 under the ticker OSUN. With offices in Oslo, Singapore and Shanghai, Ocean Sun is working towards its vision to be a bold solution for our global energy needs.
