San Jose, California, United States, March 2025 – Katie Watson has been appointed as the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) at Western Digital, a leading global provider of data storage solutions. In her new role, she will drive HR strategy, leadership development, and talent management to support Western Digital’s continued innovation and workforce excellence.
Watson brings over two decades of HR leadership experience across multiple industries, including technology, life sciences, and semiconductor manufacturing. Prior to joining Western Digital, she served as CHRO at Solidigm, a NAND flash memory leader formed from Intel’s $9 billion divestiture to SK hynix. At Solidigm, she played a critical role in establishing the company’s HR function from the ground up, scaling the workforce by 30% in its first year, and navigating significant industry challenges.
Before Solidigm, Watson spent 16 years at Gilead Sciences, where she scaled the company’s workforce from 1,000 to 12,000 employees across 38 countries, played a key role in multi-billion-dollar M&A transactions, and established diversity and inclusion initiatives that significantly increased employee engagement. She also served as EVP of Human Resources at Gilead, advising the board on talent strategy, governance, and executive compensation.
In addition to her corporate leadership roles, Watson has been an Executive Advisory Board Member at SemperVirens Venture Capital since 2020, where she advises early-stage HR startups on growth, talent strategy, and organizational development.
