Dr Ashok Kumar Panda assumes role of Director, Finance at SAIL

New Delhi, India, May 2025 — Dr Ashok Kumar Panda has taken charge as Director, Finance at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), marking yet another milestone in a distinguished career spanning over three decades within the organization. Prior to this elevation, he served as Executive Director, Finance, where he played a pivotal role in driving key financial initiatives and reforms.

Having joined SAIL as a management trainee in 1992, Dr Panda has contributed significantly across various plants and units throughout his career. His tenure reflects a deep understanding of the steel industry and operational finance, as well as strong leadership capabilities that have propelled him to the apex of the finance function at one of India’s largest steel producers.

During his journey at SAIL, he has led several critical initiatives, including deleveraging efforts, cost optimization programs, rail pricing strategies, asset sales policies, and key tax reforms including e-invoicing initiatives. These strategic contributions have been instrumental in strengthening the organization’s financial health and enhancing its competitiveness in the global steel market.

In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Dr Panda has served as a nominee director on the boards of various subsidiaries and joint ventures of SAIL, offering guidance on business strategy and governance matters. His extensive experience and visionary approach are expected to further bolster SAIL’s financial performance and support its growth ambitions in the coming years.

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL)

Founded in 1973, SAIL is India’s largest steel producer and one of the nation’s seven Maharatna companies. The organization operates five integrated steel plants and three special steel plants located in the eastern and central regions of India, making it a leader in steel production and innovation. SAIL produces a wide range of high-quality steel products for both domestic and international markets. Over the decades, the company has been at the forefront of India’s industrialization and continues to play a critical role in nation-building.
