Mumbai, Maharashtra, India,May 2025 — Abbott India has announced the appointment of Kartik Rajendran as Managing Director and Additional Director of the company for a period of five years, effective June 14, 2025. His elevation follows the resignation of Swati Dalal, who steps down from her role to pursue an external opportunity.
Kartik returns to Abbott India from his role as Regional Director – Southeast Asia Cluster, based in Bangkok, where he oversaw operations in Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Myanmar. He previously served as Managing Director – India from February 2022 to November 2023, during which time he led Abbott’s Specialty business across chronic NCDs, critical care, super specialties, and institutional access, managing a team of over 2,700 employees and a portfolio of more than 500 products.
Before his first stint as MD, Kartik was India Head for New Products, R&D, and Innovation Strategy, spearheading complex molecule development and technology-enabled drug-device combinations. He also led the India Hospital Business, covering critical segments such as cardiology, oncology, neonatology, and institutional sales, helping position Abbott as a leader in hospital product categories.
Earlier in his tenure, he served as Director of Chronic Care Therapies, managing a $200 million portfolio and leading over 2,000 team members. His efforts were focused on marketing excellence, new product launches, and digital innovation in patient care.
Before joining Abbott in 2016, Kartik spent over six years at McKinsey & Company as an Associate Partner, advising BFSI clients on growth strategy, operations, and capability building. His career began in the merchant navy, where he held senior roles in chemical tanker operations and port development consultancy.
