Carlsbad, California, United States, June 2025 — Pritesh Patel has been appointed as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), effective August 4, 2025. His appointment follows an extensive international search conducted by the GIA Board of Governors and marks a significant leadership transition after the tenure of Susan M. Jacques, who has led the institute with distinction since 2014. Patel’s elevation reflects GIA’s continued commitment to scientific excellence, consumer protection, and integrity in the global gem and jewelry industry.
Patel has been an integral part of GIA since 2015, where he served in pivotal leadership roles including Chief Information Officer and most recently, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Over nearly a decade, he has overseen major operational and technological initiatives, strengthening the organization’s global infrastructure and enhancing its delivery of gemological education, research, and certification services. His leadership within GIA has been central to the institute’s growth and modernization during a period of significant transformation in the industry.
Prior to joining GIA, Patel held executive roles at CIRCOR International, where he was Vice President of Information Technology, leading global IT strategy and compliance initiatives for the $900M enterprise. He also served as Director of IT at OK International (a Dover Company) and held earlier roles at The Timken Company, Boeing, and Cherokee International, building deep expertise across IT, operations, and enterprise transformation. Additionally, he was an entrepreneur, founding and leading Prinal Inc., a fast-casual restaurant chain in the Los Angeles area.
An alumnus of the USC Marshall School of Business, where he earned his Executive MBA and was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, Patel also holds a bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems from California State University – Long Beach, and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Executive Education – GIA Global Leadership Program. His academic and professional background positions him strongly to guide GIA’s next chapter as it continues to set global standards in gemology, diamond grading, and consumer trust.
GIA (Gemological Institute of America)
At the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), beauty is in the eye of the beholder—but quality is a matter of science. GIA is a nonprofit public benefit institute that does not buy, sell, or appraise diamonds. Instead, it offers unbiased reports and research-driven expertise relied on by gem professionals and consumers around the world. With a presence in over 11 countries and a workforce of more than 3,500, GIA is dedicated to safeguarding the gem-buying public through science, education, and innovation.
