Colombo, Western Province, Sri Lanka, July 2025 – Sumali Weerasooriya has been appointed as the new Group Chief Financial Officer at Sumathi Holdings, a prominent Sri Lankan conglomerate with a diversified presence across IT, Hydro Power, Healthcare, Film, Security, Fine Dining, Investments, and Logistics. In her new role, Sumali will be instrumental in driving strategic financial leadership and operational excellence across the Group’s diverse business interests.
Prior to joining Sumathi Holdings, Sumali served for over five years at Axiata Digital Labs, where she most recently held the role of General Manager – Performance Management and Finance Operations. In this capacity, she led high-impact initiatives that enhanced gross profit margins, reduced overheads, improved financial reporting through Power BI dashboards, and rationalized resource management systems. Her leadership significantly contributed to the financial transformation of the company, which is a key digital transformation partner for the telecom industry across Asia.
Earlier at Axiata Digital Labs, she served as Assistant General Manager – Finance & Business Controls, where she introduced robust systems for profitability monitoring, cost control, and compliance. As Senior Finance Manager, she spearheaded ISO implementations, led treasury operations, streamlined collections, and established strategic vendor relationships. Her tenure was marked by process optimization and the strengthening of financial governance and reporting.
Before Axiata, Sumali spent nearly 12 years at N-able Private Limited, a subsidiary of Hemas Holdings, including a dual-role stint with its Singapore arm. As Senior Finance Manager, she led statutory reporting, IFRS-compliant consolidations, treasury operations, and the SAP implementation. She played a key role in setting up N-able Global in Singapore and secured significant foreign financing to support expansion.
She also held finance leadership positions earlier at Vishwa BPO, Hemas Pharmaceuticals, and Lanka Bell, where she gained foundational experience in shared services, ERP migrations, treasury operations, billing, and credit control. Her career spans over two decades, built on a strong foundation in financial strategy, risk management, ERP implementation, and cross-functional team leadership.
