Chicago, Illinois, United States, December 2025 – Jonathan Rosenthal has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer at Ascension, one of the largest nonprofit and Catholic health systems in the United States. In his new role, Rosenthal is responsible for leading financial strategy, capital planning, forecasting, and enterprise-wide performance improvement initiatives while supporting Ascension’s mission of delivering compassionate, community-centered healthcare, particularly for vulnerable populations.
In his current role at Ascension, Jonathan Rosenthal has taken charge of financial turnaround strategy, enterprise planning, forecasting, capital and growth plans across acute care hospitals, outpatient clinics, graduate medical education programs, and joint ventures. He works closely with executive leadership to strengthen fiscal discipline, operational performance, and long-term sustainability across business units in Illinois and beyond.
Prior to becoming CFO, Rosenthal served as Director, Clinical Operations (Illinois Market) at Ascension, where he partnered with senior leadership to drive market-level strategic, operational, and financial initiatives across multiple hospitals. His leadership enabled improved efficiency, technology adoption, and standardized care processes across the Chicagoland market.
He earlier held the role of Director, Clinical Operations (Hospital) at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital, Kankakee, where he played a pivotal role in turnaround initiatives that elevated hospital performance from the lowest to the highest internal market rankings, reinforcing his reputation as a transformation-focused healthcare leader.
Rosenthal also contributed significantly as Manager, Business Intelligence and Senior Project Manager, Performance Consulting Group within Ascension, leading enterprise-wide Lean transformation programs, performance consulting initiatives, and data-driven decision-support models that produced measurable operational and financial improvements. His work consistently blended healthcare operations, financial analytics, and quality improvement disciplines.
Jonathan Rosenthal holds a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) from the University of Illinois Chicago, strengthening his foundation in healthcare management, systems leadership, and operational transformation.
