New Delhi, India, March 2026 — Shri Deepak Gupta has assumed charge as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of GAIL (India) Limited, ushering in a new phase of strategic leadership for India’s largest natural gas company.

With over 35 years of rich experience across the Oil & Gas sector, Shri Gupta has built a distinguished career spanning project execution, global procurement, large-scale operations, and technology-led transformation. Prior to taking over as CMD, he served as Director (Projects) at GAIL (India) Limited, where he led the execution of major infrastructure initiatives, including expansion of Natural Gas and LPG pipelines, development of gas processing facilities, SCADA infrastructure upgrades, green energy projects, and operations & maintenance of GAIL’s 20,000+ km pipeline network. He also oversaw the successful completion of the Dabhol Breakwater Project.

Beyond GAIL’s core operations, Shri Gupta has contributed to strategic leadership across several key joint ventures and associated entities, including Talcher Fertilizers Limited (TFL), OPaL India, South East Asia Gas Pipeline (SEAGP), Green Gas Limited, and Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited, serving in various board-level capacities and driving governance, project delivery, and long-term strategic direction.

Earlier in his career, Shri Gupta spent over three decades at Engineers India Limited, where he rose through the ranks to serve as Executive Director (Projects). During his tenure, he delivered landmark global projects, including the Dangote Refinery in Nigeria and Mongolia’s first refinery, alongside multiple large-scale EPC, petrochemical, and refinery initiatives.

A respected thought leader and prolific writer, Shri Gupta continues to champion innovation, digitization, and accelerated project execution as institutional best practices. His appointment as CMD reflects GAIL’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure expansion, operational excellence, and sustainable growth in India’s evolving energy landscape.
