Hyderabad, Telangana, India, March 2026 — Viatris has appointed Shantanu Panda as Senior General Manager – Global Packaging Strategy. In this new position, Shantanu will be based in Hyderabad and will lead global packaging strategy across regulated and emerging markets, with a focus on strengthening innovation, quality, and compliance in packaging systems aligned to patient needs and sustainability priorities.
In his role, Shantanu Panda is responsible for driving packaging innovation that enhances patient experience and supports sustainability goals, while building and leading multi-disciplinary packaging teams across R&D, Commercial, and Technology Transfer. His mandate also includes delivering cost and value improvement through packaging optimization and vendor strategy, strengthening regulatory readiness of packaging systems, and advancing digitalization initiatives such as e-labelling and serialization.
Shantanu Panda has been associated with Viatris for more than a decade, progressing through leadership responsibility in global packaging strategy. Prior to being named Senior General Manager – Global Packaging Strategy, he served as General Manager – Global Packaging Strategy, where he led global packaging strategy initiatives across diverse markets and supported packaging innovation, compliance, and technology transfer across functions.
Before joining Viatris, he worked with AstraZeneca, contributing as a packaging lead supporting innovator-level packaging systems for highly regulated markets. His work included packaging change management, validation, and lifecycle improvements, and he partnered closely with manufacturing, quality, and regulatory teams to ensure robust and compliant packaging execution.
Earlier, Shantanu Panda was associated with Mylan Laboratories Limited, where he led packaging development for new products and site transfer programs across regulated and emerging markets. His responsibilities included patient-centric and compliant packaging designs, end-to-end packaging activities from development through commercialization and technology transfer, regulatory submission support, post-launch improvements, and cost optimization initiatives.
He also spent several years with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, contributing to packaging development for prescription and OTC products across regulated markets, supporting drug–pack compatibility studies, stability support, packaging risk assessments, regulatory documentation, audits, market complaint investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Earlier in his career, he completed packaging development training stints with Cadila Pharmaceuticals and Cipla, where he gained foundational exposure to pharmaceutical packaging materials, shop-floor operations, GMP-aligned documentation, and packaging qualification activities.
