Farirai Chataurwa Appointed as Deputy Director HR – Operations at World Food Programme

Rome, Latium, Italy, September 2025 – Farirai Chataurwa has started a new position as Deputy Director HR – Operations at the World Food Programme (WFP). In this role, she will oversee operational HR strategies, supporting WFP’s global mission as a frontline responder to crises and a provider of life-saving assistance to millions worldwide.

Before this appointment, Farirai served as Senior HR Strategic Business Partner at the World Food Programme East & Central Africa Regional Bureau in Nairobi for over three years, where she focused on building HR frameworks to support operations in a highly complex humanitarian context.

Earlier, she was Head of Human Resources at WFP in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for nearly four years, where she led people strategies that strengthened organizational capabilities and enhanced staff engagement in critical field operations.

Prior to her leadership roles at WFP, she worked with the United Nations for over six years, gaining extensive experience in HR management, talent strategies, and organizational support in multi-stakeholder environments.

Farirai holds an MBA from the University of Leicester, a qualification that has strengthened her expertise in global HR leadership and strategic people management.
